Your statement "they also fear rejection" is one of the reasons why employers are so fearful of employing people who are not committed to the position they apply for. We are so fortunate in Singapore to be spoilt for choice that demand exceeds supply when it comes to job placement. I assume that you are young and perhaps not serious about obtaining a steady job because all you need to do is ask someone who has been laid off or retired before his time and he would have the best strategy or at least have researched the best methods for an interview to be gainfully employed again.<br><b>References : </b><br> You need to change your strategy as it sounds like the choice is yours rather than the employers to make whether you land the job. Smile and be pleasant. Show the employer that u r confident in yourself and the skills u have to offer. This can be a very important factor in your salary as well. In an interview u are selling yourself to the employer and they want to see that u are "worthy" of the offer at hand. Money is not always the biggest factor in getting a job. On the job chemistry is very important too. "Feel out" your employer is this someone u can see yourself working for/with and being happy in this position. No employer would be fooled for a moment by your inane strageies. They want you to want this job. They realize that if you're strong enough, you have other opportunities, but bragging about them does not go over big. Let them know you're interested in the job, and want to work there--if you do. Don't take any job just because it's the best offer or because you like the boss. So, be honest with yourself and them. Don't try to manipulate the process--you will be perceived as the kind of person who always works the angles rather than putting the effort into doing the job. I sincerely doubt that you have numerous offers on the table at the same time. So, what you’re really trying to do is get a single, good offer. They know that as well as you do.
