Advice on jobs, interview strategies, please help.?
Hi all, I’m 24 and I was involuntary discharged from military recently. I received hornorable discharge specified with personality disorder. My time of service was one year. I am currently an accounting student with somewhat of a solid work background; however I like to find a job for next semester. I’m running out of savings and need earnings, but I am too scare to apply anywhere. I wouldn’t know what to say during an interview when the subject of military service pops up. Almost everyone know military service required you to do 4 years. They will ask "how come you got out after 1 year?" What should I say? Im affraid no one wants an employer to have a past mental disorder, eventho I think I’m fine. I’m desperate for a job and thinking about lying for reasons of discharge, but I came up with nothing. Any life advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you…
If your type of discharge on your DD Form 214 says "Honorable" put that on the application. If someone specifically asks about it, tell them that you previously had some health concerns and was discharged because you were not "deployable".
It is best to always tell the truth, sometimes it is just better to hold some of the truth back. Based on what you wrote, this answer should work for you. Good Luck!
